Explosion protection and safety systems

We identify explosion hazard sources and specify engineering controls to prevent flammable atmosphere formation, eliminate ignition risks, contain accidental releases, and execute emergency shutdown procedures.

Hazardous Area Classification (ATEX / IECEx)

We perform hazardous area classification for industrial facilities handling flammable gases, vapors, mists, or combustible dusts (EN/IEC 60079-10-1 and 60079-10-2 standards).

Engineering scope includes:

• Evaluation of flammable material physical properties and release behavior
• Identification and categorization of Sources of Release (Grade of Release)
• Assessment of ventilation availability, degree, and dispersion rates
• Determination of Zone types (Zone 0, 1, 2 for gases / Zone 20, 21, 22 for dusts) and physical boundaries
• Assignment of Equipment Groups, Gas Groups (IIA, IIB, IIC), and Temperature Classes (T1–T6)
• Formulation of ATEX equipment selection criteria and installation constraints
• Production of Hazardous Area Classification (HAC) layout drawings and engineering justification reports

Deliverables provide the mandatory basis for electrical engineering, I&C design, HVAC specifications, and certified ATEX equipment procurement.

Industrial Safety Concept Development

We engineer comprehensive technical and organizational safety concepts to prevent major process accidents and mitigate potential consequences.

Safety concepts encompass:

• Prevention of flammable or explosive atmosphere accumulation
• Elimination and control of potential ignition sources
• Toxic gas and combustible vapor leak detection networks
• Emergency response ventilation systems
• Automatic process trip and emergency equipment isolation
• Safe pressure relief, venting, and blowdown systems
• Containment, scrubbing, and safe disposal of emergency discharges
• Plant layout separation distances and blast wall positioning
• Operational safety procedures and emergency response actions

Safety concept structures are tailored to facility complexity, project lifecycle phase, and quantitative risk assessment outcomes.

Emergency Shutdown & Protection Systems

We engineer process safety requirements and design architecture for Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD) and Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).

We define safety critical variables, high/low trip setpoints, shutdown trip hierarchies, fail-safe equipment positions, and interlocking logic between process units.

Documentation deliverables include Functional Design Specifications, Cause and Effect (C&E) matrices, trip logic narratives, and baseline hardware/software technical specifications.

ATEX / Ex Equipment Selection & Specification

We specify certified electrical, instrumentation, and mechanical equipment suitable for deployment in hazardous areas based on Zone classification, Equipment Protection Levels (EPL), Ex protection types (Ex d, Ex e, Ex i, Ex p, etc.), Gas Groups, and Temperature Classes.

We produce Ex equipment registers, mandatory ATEX marking requirements, and detailed technical datasheets for procurement packages.

Risk Reduction & Safety Implementation Plans

We formulate actionable technical and operational risk reduction recommendations synthesized from HAZOP, LOPA, SIL, and ATEX studies.

Action items include piping and instrument diagram (P&ID) modifications, installation of emergency isolation valves (EIV), upgrading trip logic, refining plant layouts, and adjusting operating windows.

Each measure is prioritized based on safety criticality and risk reduction magnitude. Cost estimation, scheduling, and implementation planning are executed under separate project assignments.
